The 2020-21 school year was a great adventure for our school. We welcomed new students from near and far on Staten Island, as well as returning students from the St. Adalbert and Holy Rosary schools. Our enrollment more than doubled in 20-21 and continues to grow each year!
Join us on our journey as we honor the past, enhance the present, and look forward to making new memories for our students, staff, and families.
The Father Vincent Capodanno Catholic Academy recognizes the rich history of both St. Adalbert School and Holy Rosary School.
St. Adalbert School:
From its humble beginnings in the basement of the old church 113 years ago, we have grown by leaps and bounds. The original students at St. Adalbert School were the children of Polish Immigrants. St. Adalbert School has provided a Catholic Education for students for over a century. As our neighborhood has become more diverse, so has our student body. The faith, patriotism and hard work of St. Adalbert School faculty and students is well-known throughout the community.
Holy Rosary School:
in 1947, Pastor Rev. Harry W. Forrester began taking the steps necessary to ensure a Catholic education for the children of Holy Rosary Parish and on February 20, 1955, city and church officials joined with residents to break ground for thew new school. The school was dedicated on April 26, 1955 with the Sisters of Notre Dame de namur arriving to begin the ministry of educating the children. By the end of 1965, an eight room addition was added to the school to accomodate the growing school population.
Mrs.Diane Hesterhagen served as the first principal of Fr,Capodanno Catholic Academy. Mrs.H was assisted by Mrs.Debbie Cretella the assistant principal. Wonderful traditions continued and were built upon. Despite the pandemic that continued into the 20-21 school year our commitment to honoring veterans continued. New activities such as dance and were added in 2022.
